| Markell Visits quasar energy group, Hails Strickland's Job Creation Efforts As Part of Fall Election Tour
Washington, D.C. - Governor Jack Markell, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, joined Gov. Ted Strickland at quasar energy group in Ohio today to discuss job creation as part of the DGA's multi-state fall election tour.
Markell hailed Gov. Strickland's fight to create a more business-friendly environment and his laser-like focus on jobs creation. He also reiterated the DGA's commitment to the race, which remains a dead heat. Markell debunked conventional wisdom that governors' races are tied solely to Washington, D.C. and highlighted several reasons for optimism in this tough election season, including the tightening of the Ohio race in recent polls.
"I am proud to be here in Columbus today to support Governor Ted Strickland and his campaign for Governor," Markell said. "Ted's focus on fighting for Ohio jobs and his investments in growing industries have positioned Ohio for long-term economic growth. I'm here today because the Democratic Governors Association fully supports Ted's campaign and, as a governor who knows the commitment required from our elected leaders, I urge the people of Ohio to re-elect Ted. He is a standout among our country's governors, and we need more governors like him."
"Over the past four years, we have worked hard in Ohio to encourage growing industries like alternative energy and create jobs in the face of the global economic recession," Strickland said. "On issues critical to jobs, like alternative energy, there is a very stark choice between Congressman Kasich and myself: I want to continue to grow this industry, while the Congressman wants to turn his back on it by repealing key energy reforms. That's why I'm honored to be joined by Governor Jack Markell, who has fought for these same reforms in Delaware and is lending his help to ensure that they continue here in Ohio."
To highlight the results that Democratic governors and candidates are achieving, Markell has embarked on a multi-state tour to make the case in support of Democratic governors and candidates. Markell just returned from his first stop in Wisconsin, where he and Mayor Tom Barrett met with a solar panel manufacturer that is hiring employees today because of a jobs initiative that Barrett promoted. He will also be visiting Florida, Georgia and Rhode Island, among other states.
